Five Army personnel died when militants ambushed their convoy in Jammu’s Kathua district on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place at Badnota village in Lohai Malhar area.
The militants threw a grenade and fired at Army vehicles that were patrolling the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, PTI news agency reported, quoting officials. While the security forces retaliated, the militants escaped into the nearby forest, the news agency reported.
Additional security forces have been sent to the area and a search operation was launched to find the militants, sources said.
”The Counter Terrorist operations are underway, and our soldiers are determined to usher in peace and order in the region,” said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
