An Israeli air strike on Sunday targeting a Civil Defence post killed Al Jazeera journalist Ahmed Al-Louh and five Palestinian Civil Defence workers in central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp.
Al-Louh is the third journalist killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours. He worked as a cameraman for Al Jazeera alongside other media outlets.
Among the rescuers killed was the director of Civil Defense, Nidal Abu Hajir.
“The Israeli occupation committed a horrific massacre by bombing a field office of the civil defence, killing 4 civil defence workers. This brings the total number of martyrs from civil defence teams to 94, a heinous crime that shocks the conscience of humanity,” Dr Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office said in a statement.
Israeli forces have killed at least 22 Palestinians, including three children, in attacks across Gaza on Sunday.
On Saturday, Israel bombed the Deir Al-Balah Municipality, resulting in the death of 12 individuals, including Dr. Diyab Al-Jarou, the mayor of Deir Al-Balah.
“This marks the assassination of four mayors during this genocidal war, part of the occupation’s plan to create administrative, governmental, and municipal chaos.”
According to the Gaza government, 196 journalists have been killed since the beginning of the genocide on October 07 last year.
Al Jazeera Media Network condemned Al-Louh’s killing, and called on human rights and media organisations “to condemn the Israeli Occupation’s systematic killing of journalists in cold blood, the evasion of responsibilities under international humanitarian law, and to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice”.
“We hold the Israeli occupation, the U.S. administration, and participating countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, and France morally, legally, and historically responsible for their complicity in the ongoing genocide, which has claimed over 165,000 lives, including martyrs, missing persons, injured, and detainees,” the statement added.
