Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava assumed command of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps on Saturday, responsible for the border with Pakistan-administered Kashmir and counter-militancy operations in the Valley.
He succeeded Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, who is set to become the Director General of Military Operations at Army headquarters. The change in positions follows the completion of Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly elections after a 10-year gap.
Lt Gen Srivastava as held key positions, including leading the Awantipora-based Victor Force, responsible for counter-insurgency operations in south Kashmir.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and holds a master’s degree in strategic studies. Recognized for his service, he was awarded the Sena Medal in 2011. He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to collaborate with security forces to overcome terrorism and build a peaceful future.
