Shimla Court orders demolition of top three floors of Sanjauli mosque

The Shimla Municipal Commissioner Court has ordered the demolition of the top three floors of the Sanjauli Mosque in Himachal Pradesh, providing the mosque’s committee and the Waqf Board with two months to carry out the demolition. The case will be reviewed again on December 21.

BS Thakur, an advocate for the Waqf Board, confirmed the court’s directive, stating that the mosque committee is responsible for the demolition costs and that future decisions regarding the remaining structure will be made later.

The conflict surrounding the mosque’s construction has sparked protests from Hindu organizations, which have alleged that the building was illegally erected. Jagat Paul, representing local residents, expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, indicating that it reflects local concerns.

The issue gained further attention when AIMIM Delhi Chief Shoaib Jamai visited the mosque and posted a video online, suggesting that the mosque was facing discriminatory actions compared to other illegal constructions in the area. However, the Sanjauli Mosque Committee has rejected Jamai’s claims, asserting that his comments are disruptive to Shimla’s peaceful atmosphere and harmful to community relations.
