New Delhi: Delhi police detained climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters at the Singhu border on Monday night as they attempted to enter the capital during their ‘Delhi Chalo March’ from Ladakh.
The march was halted due to the enforcement of Section 163 of the BNS at the Delhi borders, according to ANI.
The move sparked criticism from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who called Wangchuk’s detention “unacceptable.”
Wangchuk and his group, willing to stay at the border, refused police requests to return. As a result, around 120 people were detained, according to ANI. Wangchuk shared on X that the detainees included elderly people and Army veterans, expressing dismay at the police action.
He also criticised the heavy barricading around Ladakh Bhawan and mentioned that it felt like a “house arrest” for Ladakhi leaders, with increased police presence in areas where Ladakhi students reside.
