Tensions erupt at Dehradun railway station over Hindu man’s marriage to a Muslim woman

Communal tensions flared at Dehradun railway station on Thursday night when Hindu and Muslim groups confronted a couple — a Hindu man and a Muslim woman from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh — who had come to the city to get married. Following a tip-off, members from both communities engaged in a heated argument, which escalated into stone-pelting.

Railway police quickly intervened, detaining those involved in the incident. With tensions high, heavy police presence has been deployed in the area to maintain order. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh inspected the scene and ordered additional personnel to be stationed in nearby areas, including Reetha Mandi. Foot patrols are being conducted to ensure public safety.

“We will file charges and conduct a thorough investigation,” SSP Singh said. “CCTV footage is being used to identify those responsible, and we will not tolerate anyone disturbing the peace.”

City Magistrate Pratyush Kumar Singh, along with other officials, accompanied SSP Singh to the site to assess the situation. Investigations are ongoing to bring those involved to justice.
