A school in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha expelled a seven-year-old Muslim student on Thursday after claiming that he brought non-vegetarian biryani in his tiffin.
The boy was “locked in a room” and “subjected to verbal abuse,” alleged the boy’s mother.
A purported video, widely shared online and verified by Maktoob, shows an argument between the school principal, Avneesh Sharma, who is accused of making Islamophobic comments and abusive remarks toward a little boy, and the boy’s mother objecting to it.
In the video, the principal is even accusing the 7-year-old Muslim boy of breaking temples and converting Hindus.
The video showed Sharma telling the Muslim woman to “send a man” to discuss the matter, stating that he “does not talk to a woman.” He also threatened to call the police if she did not leave the school premises.
Following massive outrage on social media and a protest by the Amroha Muslim Committee, Sudhir Kumar, the sub-divisional magistrate of Amroha, stated that the Basic Shiksha Adhikari and the district inspector of schools had been ordered to investigate the matter.
